Physical wellbeing and mental wellbeing are connected, there is no separation. Our yin yoga practice enhances both. Not only is our practice sensational, it's sensation based. The body is a pathway for insights to be gained. By observing the breath, the body sensations, and thoughts we build self awareness. By listening to the body we pay attention to what it needs and respects it's signals. Discomfort, pain, and shortness of breath are all good indicators that whatever's happening is too much.

Mind and body, when not being forced, move into stillness, allowing the physical body to relax and soften. Our slow paced meditative approach to yin yoga has a calming effect on both the mind and body. Using long, softer holds through mindful movement encourages tension or trauma that is often held in the deeper tissues begin to lessen.

It costs the body a lot of energy to keep things suppressed. The release you feel from allowing the emotions, and physical sensations to be released from your nervous system can just be as big. This is why I have built in time for rest, reflection, and fascia release.

Psychological and physiological tension or trauma is held by our fascia. Naturally unwinding the fascia clears the mind of unconscious emotions, and physical sensations that create blockages in the body. I have personally found fascia unwinding to be a wonderful and much needed felt sense release from physical tension. All healing is rooted in the body.

'The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body' - Jason Crandell
